I’ve been actively shooting film photography since 2014. It all started when I decided to minor in photography in college which lead me to taking my first film photography class. Naturally my dad and I set time every weekend to go and photograph my assignments. My dad is a big reason as to why I ever picked up a camera in the first place, he gave my first camera at the age of 5.
In taking this class, we would also develop and darkroom print our photographs. The most organization I did was place my negatives into the sleeve and in a binder. I never digitally scanned or cataloged my film. I continued to photograph film after that class, however my organization skills never continued after that simple putting into sleeve and placing in the binder. I wouldn’t even write when or where I took this roll.
So now I find myself, 11 years later, giving this piece advise to new film photographers. Find a system that works for you and stick with it. Dont get lazy like I did. I’m setting up my journey now to go back 11 years worth of film to organize, scan, and to overall get a better system for myself.
